Where does Sprezzatura come from?
The term Sprezzatura was born in the time of the Renaissance and was introduced by the Venetian Baldassar Castiglione in his book "The Book of the Courtier" from 1528. So it is a term that has been in use for almost 500 years. Sprezzatura is inextricably linked to the behaviour of someone who has mastered the art of (living); a certain nonchalance of someone who has mastered combining the perfection of the imperfect.
The Sprezzatura Style
Contrary to what many people often think, the style of Sprezzatura is not a specific look or dress code, but is about who you are as a person. Sprezzatura is mainly about confidence — in yourself, in your choices and in your behaviour. If you are the boss of your own (clothing) choices, then you'll be stylish forever and come across as extremely cool and relaxed. And let's be honest, that's what every man wants nowadays, isn't it?!

The late Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli is perhaps the most defining interpreter of the Sprezzatura feeling, with his innovative and nonchalant way of dressing both at work and in his free time. Besides successfully steering iconic little cars, Agnelli was above all an example for all men in the field of style. Characteristic of his character were, among other things, the watch worn over the shirt (because Agnelli found it too much hassle to pull up the shirt cuff to check the time), casual shoes under a suit and leaving the button-down collar of his shirts undone. Agnelli's Sprezzatura style still inspires many 'icons-to-be'.

Known for his colourful get-ups and over-the-top combinations, this specimen is nonetheless mainly a sign of "obviously overdoing it".
