What is Japanese knitted?
Japanese knitted is the name for a knitting method inspired by traditional techniques from Japan. The term became well known mainly through the Profuomo Japanese knitted shirt line. This type of shirt is made from a blend of cotton and polyester. By now other brands have developed their own Japanese knitted shirts as well.
Properties of Japanese knitted
The difference from a regular shirt lies in the construction: knitted instead of woven. As a result the shirt feels soft on the skin and moves with you, because a knitted structure naturally stretches. You notice this especially on a long day at a desk, where a woven shirt can feel tight across the shoulders. They are also breathable, so you can wear them all year round.
When it comes to creasing, knitted shirts also have the advantage: because the loops spring back after stretching, the fabric hardly creases. They are not completely iron-free, but in practice ironing is rarely needed. Japanese knitted shirts are available in a wide range of designs, from classic plain to contemporary patterns and colours, so they suit a variety of occasions.
